Our journey through history starts ideologically from Florence and practically from Bagno a Ripoli in an itinerary that alternates cypresses and farmhouses, vineyards and olive groves, tabernacles, majestic Medici villas and beautiful cave churches. We will then reach the Vallombrosa Abbey, founded in 1036, in a biogenetic state forest-nature reserve, where we will find the tallest tree in Italy, a Douglas fir of 62.45 meters. And the landscape will change again in the Casentino Valley: Montemignaio and Castel Leone, the Hermitage of Quorle where we will meet Wolfgang Fasser (physiotherapist and music therapist, blind due to a genetic disease, collaborator of the Romanian fraternity, custodian of welcome and silence). Final stage in Poppi, a medieval village that with its famous castle seals a great ending for this unforgettable journey.
A journey through time, on the connecting road of two important cities, Florence and Arezzo, furrowed by pilgrims (San Francesco) and wayfarers (Dante Alighieri). But also a gradual journey from the city to the forest, from urban greenery, to the hills dotted with farmhouses, to the forest of white fir and beech trees.
It is an exploratory journey and therefore could reserve adventurous moments that require a discreet spirit of adaptation.
PROGRAM
1st day – 10 April – km 19 (+/- 400m):
Appointment with Sharon in Florence to take the train that will take us to Bagno a Ripoli. Stop in Bigallo and departure for Donnini.
2nd day – 11 April – km 19 (+/- 700m):
Donnini – Montemignaio
Dinner and overnight
3rd day – 12 April – km 14 (+/- 450m):
Montemignaio – Strada
Dinner and overnight
4th day – April 13th – 15 km (+/- 300m):
Strada – Poppi
Last stop and arrival at Poppi railway station for the return
For this trip there is no luggage transport so we recommend traveling as “light” as possible.
The accommodations for the overnight stay are in multiple rooms and in one case on camp beds.
